Area dentists bring smiles to Casa Grande kids at Sun Life

CASA GRANDE - Last Saturday, Feb. 7, kids were all smiles as an entire team of Tooth Fairies came to town!

Every year, the Casa Grande Rotary Club and Sun Life Family Health Center host their Give Kids a Smile and health fair event to provide children a free dental screening and fluoride varnish.

To the children’s delight, Sun Life ladies in dental were adorned in crowns, wings, black t-shirts with a big white tooth, and tutus, teaching them how to weave magic with floss and a toothbrush. Other participating area dentists and hygienists included those from Hankel & Ehrbright Family Dentistry, Dick & Mitchell Family Dentistry, Molar Magic, Kid-1 Pediatric, and McHaney Family Dentistry.

With everyone’s help, the event provided 43 local children (18 of whom did not have insurance) with the chance to have their teeth and gums checked that otherwise may not have. Those children that needed further treatment were referred to participating dental offices, including Sun Life.

Besides getting their screening done, there were fun activities for the kids to do as well as plenty of booths to stop by at the concurrent health fair, all of which had great information for parents and children alike on health. Participants included Arizona Children’s Association/Parent’s as Teacher’s Program, Boys & Girls Club of the Casa Grande Valley, Casa Grande Alliance, Cenpatico, Easter Seals Blake Foundation/Parents as Teachers Program, Headstart, HealthChoice, Pinal Hispanic Council, University of Arizona Cooperative Extension (Hearing & Vision Screening, Developmental Screening and EFNEP), and University Family Care.

The event was also a great success with the invaluable effort of volunteers. For more information on becoming a volunteer for Sun Life, visit www.SunLifeFamilyHealth.org, or call (520) 350-7551.
