Resources for Women's Health Week

May 13th, 2015

For National Women’s Health Week, we’d like to remind the ladies of Pinal County about what resources are available to them to manage their health.

For instance, did you know that there are ‪‎doctor‬'s ‎visits‬ and ‎screenings‬ that the Affordable Care Act (‪ACA‬) provides American ‪women‬ for ‪free‬? No matter what insurance you have, ACA has stipulated specific preventative services such as screenings and annual well-women or checkups as completely covered with no extra cost to you.

Depending on your age, screenings could measure blood pressure, cholesterol/blood lipid levels, blood glucose/sugar levels (diabetes assessments), bone mineral density, and cancer screenings for breast, colorectal, cervical, among many others.

Other factors that can help support a healthy lifestyle is regular exercise (at least a half hour 3-4 days a week), eating healthy (3-5 servings of veggies and 2-4 servings of fruit each day), reduce alcohol consumption (no more than one alcoholic drink a day), maintain a healthy weight (measure your BMI online here), don’t smoke, get enough sleep each night and reduce stress.

Find out what tests or screenings are recommended for you by following this link here, and which ones are covered through the ACA here. Then you can decide on the health goals you want to accomplish (whether it's a screening schedule or weight loss plan) and schedule a ‪well‬-‪woman ‬visit and talk with a ‎Sun Life Family Health‬ practitioner in your area today!
